Last night, February 7th, we held the final judging for the Big Beer Contest at Coalhouse Pizza in Stamford. The final 6 beers were two Belgians, two double IPAs, an Imperial Red, and an American barleywine. Renowned beer writer and Yankee Brew News editor Greg Glaser, national award winning home brewer John Watson and Tess and Mark, owners of Maltose Express were the judges for the finals. Tom Miklenivich and Jim Link from the Underground Brewers of Connecticut homebrew club were also judges for the pre-judging. The barleywine was voted the winning beer, had layers of complexity in the aroma and the flavor and was 18 months old. It was brewed by Rob Biasetti and Christopher Graney.
